F.A.Q.s
Q. Why should I consider a private school?
A. GSB offers a strong college preparatory curriculum in small classes, dedicated teachers and advisors, motivated peers, parental involvement, a global learning perspective and a supportive, respectful community. Honors and advanced placement courses along with a full complement of athletic and extra-curricular options enhance the program at all levels. Qualified students at GSB are more likely to take honors and advanced placement courses. In addition, students and their families receive personal, effective college counseling.
Q. What is Gill St. Bernard’s student teacher ratio?
A. The 9:1 student-to-teacher ratio equals an average class size of 14 to 16 students. Small class size promotes student participation and effective learning. When teachers know students well, academic achievement and student responsibility are the result.
Q. Will our family fit in? I don’t want to take my child out of the "real" world.
A. Families are often surprised to learn that Independent Schools are often as diverse and inclusive as local schools. GSB pulls from a 40 mile radius and admits students from a variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, religious and geographic backgrounds.
Q. What distinguishes Gill St. Bernard’s School?
A. As a college preparatory school, our teachers emphasize strong academics as one would expect, but it is the extraordinary sense of community—where all students are known, supported and encouraged to reach their fullest potential—that creates a climate wherein students excel.
GSB students participate broadly in athletic, community service and extracurricular programs where valuable life lessons are learned. Students benefit from genuine relationships with a talented faculty, acquire a global perspective which is woven into the core curriculum and independent research skills through a nationally recognized Research Program. The unique Unit Study affords students valuable experiential learning opportunities exploring areas of interest outside the standard curriculum.
GSB graduates are well-spoken, goal-oriented, engaging young people poised for success in higher education and beyond. They are able to think critically and analytically, are accustomed to acting with integrity and compassion, and expect to be active, responsible citizens of the world.
